Service Technical Trainer

Job Title:               Service Technical Trainer

Classification:       Fulltime Exempt

Department:         Service

Reports To:           Service Manager

Supervises:           Service Apprentices

Job Function:

The Service Technical Trainer is instrumental in assisting dealers learn how their McCormick products are to perform as they were designed and keep them performing with routine maintenance as well as troubleshoot service issues as they arise. The trainer should have basic fundamental knowledge of engines, hydraulics, power trains, air conditioning, and electrical systems as they apply to agriculture machinery. They assist technicians with repairs and perform pre-delivery inspections on new equipment.  When working alone trainee is responsible for filling in necessary information on work orders to include:  make, model, serial number, hours of operation, all parts used in job, and a complete description of all work done to unit. The trainer must possess knowledge to safely and properly operate all machines and equipment owned and serviced by the company.

Responsibilities:

  1. Design, coordinate and lead Dealer Service Training:
    ** Oversee onsite service training for current tractor inventory - keeping dealers able to provide continued support for our equipment in their local areas.
    ** Coordinate annual training seminars to update service manuals and address concerns with current dealers on service obstacles.
  2. Support Territory Service Managers.
    ** Oversee internal training for Territory Service Managers to ensure their capability of providing support to the dealers in their area.
  3. Dealer visits supporting service reps on difficult issues.
    ** Visit with dealers to understand and provide resolution assistance when service issues arise.
  4. Report any additional work required on machines to the service manager for proper and safe operation by the customer.
  5. Oversee rebuilding of tractors returned from dealers and customers.
    ** Prepare all work orders in a correct and legible fashion to include: make, model, serial number, hours of operation, all parts used in repair, complete description of repair completed, and a key part or specific area of failure for each segment or job, and any comments regarding future repairs that may be necessary.
  6. Lead and educate Apprentices to be responsible for reports and forms required in conjunction with work assignments.
  7. Maintain a clean work area and perform work in a neat and orderly manner.
  8. Maintain and care for departmental tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  9. Follow all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.
  10. Conduct yourself in the presence of customers as to promote a professional image for the dealership.
  11. Dealer portal service and training maintenance - Use current technology available for our dealers to oversee necessary service and support.
  12. Parts technical support.
    ** Liaise with parts and service departments to provide full support to our dealers. Providing answers to questions as to which parts or provide an alternate solution for the equipment issues and serves as a tremendous and valuable resource.
  13. Sales and Logistics support.
    ** Address technical parts queries from dealers, technicians and service managers.

Skills & Qualification:

  1. Valid driver's license
  2. Education or certification in Industrial, Technology or Agricultural Sciences program preferred
  3. Basic mechanical skills
  4. Basic computer skills
  5. Organizational skills and the ability to take work direction
  6. Desire to grow and advance within the organization

  • Mobility: Squatting, bending, climbing, lifting, reaching, twisting, standing and sitting for long durations
  • Visual: Working with PC, manuals and close detailed work

  • Work Environment: Exposure to extreme weather, fumes, airborne particles and moving mechanical parts
  • Dexterity: Ability to grasp and manipulate tools and parts
